Alternatively, Shakespeare perhaps may be criticising Macbeth’s ambition, implying that he is seen as someone who may be going above Jacobean expectations of “bravery”. This also emphasises Macbeth’s nature of violence and ambition becoming overly anguished. At the middle of the play, Macbeth was seen as a transgressive person who rejected boundaries set in the Jacobean era. This is evident in “vaulting ambition which o’erleaps itself” whereby the metaphor of a horse suggests something destructive. Ultimately, “vaulting” suggests something uncontrollable yet destructive, implying that there is a sense of danger which highlights him being entirely violent. Alternatively, Shakespeare’s use of animalistic imagery of horse “o’erleaps” emphasises Macbeth exceeding moral boundaries and rejecting moral support. Shakespeare ultimately emphasises ambition as something to beware about as going beyond natural limits enhances a sense of rejection towards the Great Chain of Being. Macbeth forgetting “fear” implies that he has become overly contradicting his restraint from the supernatural. Ultimately, Shakespeare emphasises Macbeth’s dominance to highlight his superiority in the play. At the end of the play, Macbeth transitions into a transgressive figure. This is evident in “blood will have blood” where he becomes emotionally guilty. The cyclical structure of “blood” emphasises the ongoing danger or fear brought out from the witches or the so-called agents of chaos created by Shakespeare. Alternatively, Shakespeare illustrates that guilt is driven by going against the Great Chain of Being and exceeding over moral limits like Macbeth who has been consumed by guilt and ambition due to his uncontrollable restraint from violence. In conclusion, Shakespeare presents Macbeth as a violent and overly dangerous individual who is corrupted by the force of ambition, the supernatural and his great oppression to be king, leading him to his fatal downfall and his profound death.
