‘there’s nowhere for you to run or hide now’, this murder callously cackled at the top of his lungs. Was this really the end? This rare creature that dropped from the heavens to my hands like an angel as unconsciously calling for me. I could not give up now. Clouds caved in on me, as if in support of this park ranger’s motive. Nature was not on my side today, but this god-like specimen needed me to be on its side. With each rain drop, another rock corroded of the cliff-edge of doom, another breath taken, another second to reach safety gone. There I was, carrying the life of this golden idol which we both wanted for reasons more opposing than fire and water. Callous clouds hissing and spitting on me, mocking me for my immature decisions. Not even I knew what I was to do with this unicorn but, when I saw its twinkling eyes, I knew our paths intertwined for a reason.
Sun smiling, grass waving, birds singing, I almost reached the end of my tiresome journey through the forest that led me to utter fatigue. Another rock, another rock and another rock before I could set down my burden of a backpack heavier than the mountain I climbed. This twisted forest had encroached me within its grasping and knotted vines which could not be combed even if with a sword of gold. Suddenly, a clear path painted out from my toes to the wings of another, as if it was meant for us to find each other. Approaching this mythical creature left my heart in a constant race which won for being faster than every step I took. Nervously, I approached this creature with a face and soul full of fear, as if a double-edged sword had slit my spine in half leaving it in shivers stronger than those felt in the winter. Reaching closer, the sun blanketed a clear spotlight on the star of my journey, a small and sweet unicorn as docile as a dog sat before me. Eyes filled with pools of innocence, hair as soft and sweet as cotton candy, wings need not be big to create a massive impression. I knew it. I had read of this ethereal entity, the one who can fly, change size, and be the ultimate domination of a human’s heart. Yet, this rarity had expressed no omnipotent qualities that stole my heart, except from its loving eyes that begged me to stay.
Leading it through the walk of wonder I had just experienced, another pair of feet met face to face with mine, but the path was still braided rather than combed straight. A destiny that is not mine came closer leading me to grasp onto this prized possession and run faster than the speed of light. Where was I running to? What was I to do with this unicorn? Why does this person ask desire a destiny that is not theirs? Questions that ran faster than my legs ran through my mind like a carousel except the seat of the unicorn was in my hands. ‘Hand it over!’, a loud voice silencing the elements of this forest, enabling its echo to linger through the vines and panting breaths of other animals. If I let you go now, you wouldn’t forgive me? If I held onto you and caused your death, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself? Our journey came to an end. Mother nature stopped me with a dead end, the rivers beneath me reflecting my dead end to life; a mirror of harsh reality. Gunpoint, and I still wanted to run, I was so desperate I believed I could forge a bridge and run across, an imagination wilder than the creature in my hand. Reality struck in its hardest form, although the sun became pushed away by negative elements, the realisation of this creature’s unconsciousness finally dawned upon me. Now that this abnormal animal had fell asleep, the chances of it waking up were less than the amount of path I had to step back. There was only one option. I failed you. I’m sorry.
Like a miracle, the mythical unicorn struck my heart with its electric eyes, growing with its power. Its wings grew in lengths longer than the distance from heaven and earth. Just as this horrid hunter was about to strike another, miraculous mother nature finally struck back, and his gun was gone. Together we flew and never looked back, feeling as powerful as divine angels, we rode across our destined path and made it to the other side of the forest. Although a long journey, the sun smiled and encouraged us till the very end, each branch of a tree applauding our victory and each grass falling victim to natures tenacious terrors waved a happy goodbye. We only had our surrounding elements such as: blooming flowers, singing birds and each other but we felt as if we had conquered the world and achieved all its wealth.
